Code of Conduct for Athletes
Dooneen AC recognise the need to provide a safe, sporting environment for all young children and athletes.
1. Athletes are entitled to be listened to, to feel safe, be treated with dignity, sensitivity and respect
2. Athletes should have a voice in the Club and participate on an equal basis
3. Athletes should experience competition at a level at which they feel comfortable

Athletes should always

  • treat each other with respect and dignity
  • play fairly and at all times respect opponents
  • be gracious in defeat
  • abide by the rules set down by individual event Managers when travelling away
  • behave in a manner that avoids bringing the sport of Athletics and the club into disrepute
  • applaud positive accomplishments from this/her team-mates, their opponents or the officials

Athletes should never

  • cheat or use violence or physical contact during sport
  • shout or argue with club officials, event officials, coaches, team mates or opponents
  • harm club members, opponents or their property
  • bully or use bullying tactics to isolate another athlete or club member
  • use unfair or bullying tactics to gain advantage or take banned substances

 

Code of Conduct for Parents
Dooneen AC recognise the need to provide a safe and supportive environment for young
athletes and believe that parents should be a role model for their child
Parents should always

  • maintain the highest standards of conduct when interacting with children, other parents, officials and organisers.
  • behave responsibly and do not seek to unfairly affect the competition or training their child is participating in
  • recognise the value and importance of the volunteers who provide sporting/recreational opportunities for their child.
  • respect coaches, volunteers and other officers within the club during sessions and events
  • give encouragement and applaud positive accomplishments whether from their own child, his/her team-mates, their opponents or the officials

Parents should not

  • publicly question the judgment or honesty of coaches, officials, or other athletes
  • demonstrate threatening or abusive behavior or use foul language
  • intentionally expose any young participant to embarrassment or disparagement by the use of flippant or sarcastic remarks

Every athlete, parent and member of the club is bound by the Athletics Ireland Code of Ethics
