    HEROutdoors Campaign

    Club members, parents and friends are taking part this year in the national active outdoors initiative aimed at boosting participation by girls and women in outdoor fitness of all kinds.  Thanks to Athletics Ireland for supporting this joint Dooneen and Limerick AC activity through the HEROutdoors campaign fund.  The 3-session format is group warm-up to music, mobility and stretching followed by paired stations for a circuit utilising the outdoor gym equipment in Mungret Park. At this time of year, base fitness building with a focus on running is ideal for beginners and our teenaged athletes.  Paul Askins captured some of the activity sections to show the variety within the session…

    2023 Limerick Cross Country Day 2

    Testing conditions today for the senior xcountry championships with a downpour just as events started making underfoot conditions challenging. Congratulations to Sinéad McDermott on winning the women’s county senior cross country in Newcastlewest today. Congratulations also to our senior men of David Secchi,Kevin Johnson,Mpho Chauke,Dermot Kearns,Andrew McMahon and Joe Chawke on winning team silver.  Well done guys. A huge thank you to West Limerick AC, the county board and all involved in hosting this event in the fabulous new course of the showgrounds.     2023 Limerick Cross Country Day 1

    Day 1 of the 2023 Limerick County Cross Country was uneven-age relays and the Intermediate men and women. First up were our U9 girls of Izabelle Berka, Emma Morrissey, Ali Bourke and Lily Conway who came home in 4th in their first competition. Next up were the boys of James O’Donnell, Cian Harte, Caleb Cusack and Dougie Silke who came home in an amazing 4th place. We had two teams in the girls U11 Faye Hallinan, Clara Mooney, Ella Harte, Blanka deviet, Kiera Dillon, Ruth Cregan, Freya Collins and Zoe Casey O’Shea.     Our Latest International Athlete

    Dooneen Athletic Club’s latest International athlete, Destiny Lawal, competed at the AAA Championships in Birmingham during the weekend of August 26th and 27th for U15 to U17 boys and girls. Destiny, who is U14 competed in the girls U15 100m and 200m sprints. Destiny who is coached by Dave Crowley and Phil Roche has won County, Munster and National gold medals across 60m, 4x200m relay Indoor Championships, 100m, 200m and 4x100m relays in Outdoor championships and 4×500 Munster Cross Country Championships this year. After her long indoor and outdoor season Destiny went to Birmingham to run out of age and compete against the best u15 girls across England, Scotland, Wales…

    Munster Schools and Limerick Track and Field

    Dooneen Athletes completed on Tuesday and Thursday at the North Munster Schools Track & Field Championships, held in Castleisland, Kerry. Athletles who finished in first three places qualified for the Munster schools to be held Saturday 20th May in Castleisland. Destiny Lawal (Castletroy College) won gold in minor girls 100m (11.9), Ella Grace Osborne (Laurel Hill Colaiste) bronze in 800m (2:30.1) with Catherine McCutcheon 4th. Emer Purtill (Mungret CC) won gold in minor girls High Jump (1.55m), Junior girls Javlin (35.13m), minor girls 200m (27.2), minor girls Shot (12.18m) and minor girls 4x100m relay (with Madison, Marion and Emma).     2023 Michal Rejmer 10-Mile Road Race

    Congratulations to everyone that ran the Michal Rejmer 10mile. The weather was glorious and well deserved ice cream at the finish was much needed. Thanks to everyone that marshalled the race.     2023 Munster Indoor Relays

    Saturday the Munster U9-U19 Indoor relay championships were held in Nenagh. Dooneen had approx 20 teams competing across all the ages. For some of our younger boys and girls this was their first time competing at this level and performed amazingly. Main highlights on the day were the Girls U19 winning in a time of 1:48:25. The team was Amy Ryan, Molly Quirke, Victoria Amiadamen and Debbie Lawal. The Boys U18 won the 4x200m in a great time of 1:42:91.  The team was Alan McCutcheon, Ross O’Carroll, Lamine Diarrassouba and Jack Crowley.     2023 Adare 10k

    Well done to everyone that participated in the Adare 10km on Sunday. Conditions were great for running. Although some wind, the sunny, dry weather made for some great times.  First team for the Dooneen Women and second for the Dooneen men. The men’s top 3 were: William Maunswell -Clonmel AC, Niall Shanahan-An Brú, John Kinsella- Bilboa AC. In the women’s race, Íde Nic Dhomhnaill of West Limerick AC was 1st and broke the female course record, followed by Mary Mulherne-Portlaoise AC and Kate McDonald of Ballyroan Abbeyleix District AC.
