2024 Limerick Cross Country Day 2 (Newcastle West)
A wet day in Newcastlewest yesterday at the cross country. That didn’t stop our young juvenile athletes from running the length and breadth of four muddy and wet fields! 2024 Limerick Cross Country Day 1 (Bilboa)
A great day of running today at Bilboa AC, the uneven County Championships. Lots of Dooneen AC juveniles took part, plenty medals and smiles at the start/finish line. Well done to all the Dooneen athletes who took part, many running cross country for the first time. Next Cross Country event is in Newcastlewest on Sunday Sept 29th.

HEROutdoors Campaign
Club members, parents and friends are taking part this year in the national active outdoors initiative aimed at boosting participation by girls and women in outdoor fitness of all kinds. Thanks to Athletics Ireland for supporting this joint Dooneen and Limerick AC activity through the HEROutdoors campaign fund. The 3-session format is group warm-up to music, mobility and stretching followed by paired stations for a circuit utilising the outdoor gym equipment in Mungret Park. At this time of year, base fitness building with a focus on running is ideal for beginners and our teenaged athletes. Munster U9-U11 Indoor Championships
Under 9 to 11 Munster Indoor championships were held in Nenagh on Sunday, March 10th. Competition was fierce this year with very high entries into all events. U11 girls had 10 heats in the 600m and 14 heats in the 60m sprint while there were as much as 100 in several age groups on long jump. All participants received a special certificate of achievement which we presented to those that braved the wet weather on Monday evening in The Comp, plus an extra early Easter gift from the club in recognition of their performance. Katelyn also received her first Munster medal in the 1km walk.

Conditions for running couldn’t be bette or in more stark contract to last weekend’s competition with sunshine and lolipops all ronnd in Bilboa for the third and final day of county championships for this year.

Testing conditions today for the senior xcountry championships with a downpour just as events started making underfoot conditions challenging. Congratulations to Sinéad McDermott on winning the women’s county senior cross country in Newcastlewest today. Congratulations also to our senior men of David Secchi,Kevin Johnson,Mpho Chauke,Dermot Kearns,Andrew McMahon and Joe Chawke on winning team silver. Well done guys. A huge thank you to West Limerick AC, the county board and all involved in hosting this event in the fabulous new course of the showgrounds. 2023 Limerick Cross Country Day 1
Day 1 of the 2023 Limerick County Cross Country was uneven-age relays and the Intermediate men and women. First up were our U9 girls of Izabelle Berka, Emma Morrissey, Ali Bourke and Lily Conway who came home in 4th in their first competition. Next up were the boys of James O’Donnell, Cian Harte, Caleb Cusack and Dougie Silke who came home in an amazing 4th place. We had two teams in the girls U11 Faye Hallinan, Clara Mooney, Ella Harte, Blanka deviet, Kiera Dillon, Ruth Cregan, Freya Collins and Zoe Casey O’Shea. Our Latest International Athlete
Dooneen Athletic Club’s latest International athlete, Destiny Lawal, competed at the AAA Championships in Birmingham during the weekend of August 26th and 27th for U15 to U17 boys and girls. Destiny, who is U14 competed in the girls U15 100m and 200m sprints. Destiny who is coached by Dave Crowley and Phil Roche has won County, Munster and National gold medals across 60m, 4x200m relay Indoor Championships, 100m, 200m and 4x100m relays in Outdoor championships and 4×500 Munster Cross Country Championships this year.
