Results and photos from this year’s county track and field held on the Newcastle West track over the weeked of May 10th and 11th. Expanding on what is normally a single day event, this year was moved to a two day event to give more choice for all athletes to compete, without the rush of trying to fit it all into a single day.
On Saturday we started off with the senior events and followed up with U12-Junior championships. Taking part in the 400m senior women race and winning gold was Niamh Hynes, who then took gold in the youth category 400m hurdles event. Niamh also won the Youth 200m gold, followed by Aisling Lynch taking silver and Aisling O’Sullivan with bronze, completing a trio of golds for Niamh and a trio of 200m medals for Dooneen.
In U15 girls 100m Olivia Tobin gold with Siun Galvin taking silver. In 200m Olivia Tobin again won gold. 80m Hurdles Siun Galvin won bronze while in the 800m Caoilin Crowley won gold.
U15 boys 100m Jay Collins took gold followed by Kyle Harte with bronze. 200m Jay Collins gold and Kyle Harte with bronze, while Kyle won the 800m event with Liam Harnett taking bronze.
In the U14 girls 200m Belle Crowley won gold from Eva McMahon taking silver. In the 75m Hurdles Amy Weekes won silver. In 800m Eva McMahon won gold with Grace O’Brien taking home the bronze medal.
For U14 boys 80m,200m and 800m, Ruadhan O’hAnnaidh took bronze in all three events.
In U13 boys 80m and 200m Sean O’Donnell won bronze, with Bobby Weekes taking bronze in 60m Hurdles and Milo Liddy McDonagh winning the silver medal in the 600m race.
U12 girls 60m Hurdles Sophie Sherlock took silver, while in the 200m Alex O’Connor took silver and Sophie Sherlock the bronze.
The fine weather and great results continued on Sunday with under 9 to under 11 championships.
U11 boys 60m Tiarnan Quaid won the gold medal followed by Iassc McCarthy with the silver. In 200m Sean McManus got the silver medal with Ruairi Heeney and Sean McManus both taking bronze medals.
U10 girls 200m Zoe Haugh gold and Roise Murnane silver. In the second 200m race, Lily Giltenane silver and Caoimhe Rahily bronze.
U10 boys 200m Liam O’Driscall gold, Cian Harte silver and Evan Casey-O’Shea bronze.
U10 boys 500m Adam McMahon silver and Senan O’hAnnaidh bronze.
U9 girls Emilia McCarthy won 200m gold and 60m silver medals while in the boys U9, Noah Alfred won gold in 60m and 200m.
In relay races there were medals for teams across all the races.
