2026 National Indoor League Final
Valentine’s Day 2026 will hold a special place in the hearts of the Dooneen National League women’s team, as many of them proudly claimed their first National Senior Athletics medal.
It was a thrilling and fast-moving day, packed with standout performances from start to finish.
The action kicked off with the 60m, where the talented Destiny Lawal got Dooneen off to a good start by putting our first points on the scoreboard.
Momentum quickly gathered thanks to Olga Nedvede, who delivered a superb maximum-points performance in the weight for distance, setting the tone for the events to follow.
With the TY Ball the furthest thing from her mind, Ella Grace Osborne delivered a composed and determined run in the 1500m. Meanwhile, Isbéal Ní Huigín, also TY-bound, went from zero to hero with a huge points haul in the pole vault, undoubtedly marking herself as one to watch for the future.
Her older sister, Eanna Ní Huigín, joined the charge, giving a wholehearted performance in the 200m to add valuable points. Sixteen-year-old Megan O’Shea faced formidable opposition in the 60m hurdles but rose to the challenge with a strong scoring run.
Taking a welcome break from Leaving Cert mock exams, Aimee McMahon ran her heart out in the 800m. Masters athlete Sinead McDermott continued to make her mark in race walking, smashing her personal best in the 1500m walk. Young Niamh Hynes also celebrated a PB with a measured and precise run in the 400m.
A glance at the scoreboard showed Dooneen firmly in contention. Leagh Moloney delivered again, producing two great performances in the triple jump and long jump. Clair Coleman, more accustomed to 26.2 miles, answered a midweek SOS and strengthened our position with a gutsy 3000m run.
With only a handful of events remaining, Emer Purtill significantly boosted medal hopes, combining impressive high jumps with even mightier efforts in the shot put.
And so it all came down to the 4 x 400m relay. Sitting in third place, Dooneen were within touching distance of a medal—but Leevale were close behind and ready for a battle. The quartet of Niamh Hynes, Sophia Meaney, Vivian Amazee, and Meabh Purtill took on the task.
Limerick versus Cork—game on. With superb execution and composure, Niamh, Sophia, Vivian, and Meabh rose to the occasion and secured the medal position.
Third place in Ireland. A truly fantastic day for Dooneen.
