
2025 Munster Indoor U15-U19 Championships
Last weekend saw the Munster Indoor track and field season start at Nenagh Olympic Stadium. Over the weekend athletes from all over Munster turned out to compete for medals and qualification to the National Indoor Championships in March.
Siun Galvin was first up for Dooneen on Saturday in the U15 Girls 60m hurdles.
Isbéal Ni Huigín competed in the U16 Girls 200m and came 2nd, splitting the 1st and 3rd that had both run in the first heat and finishing over 1 second ahead of the 2nd place in her heat.
Destiny Lawal won the Girls U17 200m sprint by half a second, with Niamh Hynes being the next best for Dooneen followed by Grace Mainoo and Asling O’Sullivan.
Louis Flynn competed in the Boys U17 200m, finishing just outside the medal positions.
Meave Purtill finished 3rd in the Girls U18 200m sprint just ahead of Éanna Ni Huigín.
Rian Collins and Glen Addae both competed in the Boys U18 200m with Rian finshing narrowly outside the medals.
Niamh Hynes also ran in the Girls U17 400m finishing 4th overall.
Ellen Goggin, fresh from winning at the Munster Schools Cross County on Friday, won and set a new Championship Record in the Girls U16 800m on Sunday, in a time of 2.16.51, taking nearly 1 second off the old record.
Oisin Garvey competed in the Boys U16 800m with Rudhán Crowley taking part in the Boys U17 800m.
In 60m sprints, Siun Galvin took part in the Girls U15 and Isbeal NiHuigín made the final of the Girls U16 and was only marginally outside the medals finishing fourth.
In the Girls U17 60m, Destiny Lawell, Emer Purtill and Grace Mainoo all made the final, with Destiny winning in a new Championship Record time of 7.78 seconds, taking Joan Healy’s record that had stood since 2008.
Jay Collins and Samuel Addae both made the final of the Boys U15 60m sprint, with Jay coming home in third place.
Rian Collins came third in the final of the Boys U18 60m sprint final with Joshua Mainoo also finishing third in the U19 final.
While we had no one from Dooneen competing in the Boys U15 800m, Limerick AC’s Darragh Whelan finished in a new Championship Record time of 2.02.11, knocking six seconds off the old record, which had stood since 2006.
In field sports, Meave Purtill won the Girls U18 High Jump with her sister Emer winning the Girls U17 event. Emer also won the U17 Shot with Aisling O’Sullivan coming fifth, while Meave came third in U18.
In the Boys U16 shot, Raymond O’Brien came third followed by Oisin Garvey in sixth.
In U15 Long Jump, Siun Galvin took part in the Girls event with Cian O’Donnell competing in the boys.
